Five Challenges for the Fourth Decade of the “IT Revolution.”
Date: November 21, 2014
Time: 2:00-3:00 pm ET – free to all
Presenters: Casey Green – founding director of The Campus Computing Project, Steve Gilbert, Beth Dailey – TLT Group.
In 1986, Steve Gilbert and Casey Green published “The New Computing in Higher Education.” Widely read and widely cited. “The New Computing” described the promise and potential of new computing devices and the emerging (and great) aspirations for technology as a journey that academics “can no longer delay.”
Plus ca change: the more things change, the more they stay the same. Without question, the technologies available to students and faculty really have changed dramatically over the past three decades. And also without question, much of higher education remains unchanged despite the ubiquity of technology as part of the college experience
Drawing in part on the results of the recently released 2014 Campus Computing Survey, Green will describe what he see as the five continuing challenges that confront higher education undefined colleges and universities and also faculty, IT leaders, and campus officials undefined in the “fourth decade of the IT revolution” in higher education.
BIO: Casey Green is the founding director of The Campus Computing Project, the largest continuing study of eLearning and information technology in American higher education. The project is often cited as the definitive source for data, information, and insight about IT planning and policy issues confronting US colleges and universities. Green also writs the award-winning Digital Tweed blog for INSIDE HIGHER ED and serves as the moderator for the weekly THIS WEEK @ INSIDE HIGHER ED newscasts.
